Facilities Task Force Recommendations

Below you will find each of the projects identified by the Facilities Task Force. Each project has been classified into either Phase I, II, or III. Most of the projects in Phase I are currently in progress. Any total costs that is followed by an asterisk (*) has been funded for the 2020-21 school year and is part of the $97,750,000 total.

The remaining Phase I, II, and III projects will cost $117,500,000 to complete. This will be the total need from the county for expansions, additions, and major renovations post 2020 Bond. These individual's project cost are estimates and are subject to many variables which could drive the cost up or down. This estimate is based on 2020 bid cost and market conditions.

Projected New School Construction

A total of $60,000,000 is needed from the county to complete the below new construction projects.

Phase Assignment: Phase II
Possible Locations: South Iredell with 150+ acres or Coddle Creek with 70.87 acres
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Future Project
Type of Project: New Construction
Budget/Estimated Budget: $35,000,000
Notes: Growth in the southern end of Iredell County will require a new middle school in the district. Options include: the Coddle Creek site, Parkertown site, and short-term solution to renovate and add to Mount Mourne site.

New Elementary School

Phase Assignment: Phase II
Possible Locations: Parkertown Road with 85.7 acres and not in critical watershed, Mount Mourne site could be redeveloped; however, is limited in acreage and in watershed
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Future Project
Type of Project: New Construction
Budget/Estimated Budget: $25,000,000
Notes: Growth in the southern end of Iredell County will require a new elementary school or redistricting.

Lakeshore Elementary School

Phase Assignment: Phase I
Description of Need: Add 4 to 6 classrooms
Current Funding Status: 2014 Bond Reserve Fund
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $3,100,000*
Notes: Bids have been accepted with construction to begin in spring 2021. We cannot expand this site. In the near future, growth will require other options like redistricting, additions to other schools, and a new elementary school.

West Iredell High School

Phase Assignment: Phase I
Description of Need: New state of the art vocational shops and renovation of old shop area
Current Funding Status: 2014 Bond Reserve Fund
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $3,750,000*
Notes: Construction is scheduled to begin spring 2021 with a completion by summer 2021. The vocational shops are part of the original school and are too small and outdated for the current programs.

Statesville High School

Phase Assignment: Phase I
Description of Need: New CTE shops to support the Career and Technical Program
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Recommendation, Design Complete (2014 Bond Reserve)
Type of Project: Demo and New Construction
Budget/Estimated Budget: $8,000,000 and $300,000* for the design
Notes: Ready for bid when funding is available.

Phase Assignment: Phase I
Description of Need: 8 classroom expansion if IB and Early College continue on Statesville High campus
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Recommendation
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $4,000,000
Notes: The 8 classrooms are needed if early college remains which can space for potentially an additional 400 students.

Statesville Middle School

Phase Assignment: Phase I
Description of Need: Major renovations and upgrades in order to relocation Northview School to the former Statesville Middle campus.
Current Funding Status: 2014 Bond Reserve Fund and Lottery/Capital Funds
Type of Project: Renovation and Upgrades
Budget/Estimated Budget: $7,800,000*
Notes: This project is currently under construction to be completed in spring 2021.

Harmony Elementary School

Phase Assignment: Phase II
Description of Need: Tear down and replace the 4th-5th grades wing and update the gym
Current Funding Status: 2019 Amended Recommendation of Facilities Task Force
Type of Project: Demo, Replace, and Renovation
Budget/Estimated Budget: $8,000,000
Notes: An architectural/engineering study recommends replacing the sbu standard 4th-5th grades wing. It was removed from previous work on campus in 2007 due to limited funding at that time.

Lakeshore Middle School

Phase Assignment: Phase II
Description of Need: Addition of 4 to 6 classrooms
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Recommendation
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $3,500,000
Notes: We cannot expand further after this project. Growth will require other options like redistricting, building a new middle school at Coddle Creek site, building a new middle school at Parkertown Road site, or making additions to other schools.

Lake Norman Elementary School

Career Academy and Technical School

Phase Assignment: Phase II
Description of Need: Addition of 5 auto tech classrooms to replace the mega modular, 2 dirty shop classroom areas, 6 general classrooms, an advanced computer lab, and advanced horticulture lab area
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Recommendation
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $5,000,000
Notes: Continue expansion into trades, advanced manufacturing and potential for comprehensive technical school.

West Iredell Middle School

Phase Assignment: Phase II
Description of Need: Minimal work of $8,175,000 must be done if no tear down plan. Architect/engineering options: B-minimal renovation, A-tear down and replace oldest section and gym
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Recommendation
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $18,000,000
Notes: This site has many programmatic and design issues. The oldest section and 1996 addition need a complete mechanical, plumbing, and electric overhaul; does not meet ADA code. Needs additional parking and repaving, new traffic pattern and addition of multipurpose fields and ball fields. Build new gym. Purchase additional land for expansion and possible future school site. Engineering/architectural audit recommends tear down and replace some areas.

East Iredell Middle School

Phase Assignment: Phase III
Description of Need: Add multipurpose space/storage and expand/upgrade cafeteria
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Recommendation
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $2,000,000
Notes: Core areas have always been small for potential population. Storage space is limited and the cafeteria is small for potential 800 student population.

North Iredell Middle School

Woodland Heights Elementary School

Phase Assignment: Phase III
Description of Need: 6 additional classrooms
Current Funding Status: Facilities Task Force Recommendation
Type of Project: Addition
Budget/Estimated Budget: $3,000,000
Notes: With the growth on Brawley School Road, we will need to add on additional classrooms unless other options are used. These options include: redistricting with Lake Norman Elementary, building a new elementary school, creating a K-5 or K-8 STEM school at the Mount Mourne School site.
