iACADEMY Elementary
What is iAcademy?
iAcademy Elementary is a public school that blends homeschooling with traditional classroom learning. It is a unique approach to public education offering the best of both worlds! Flexibility is built into the fabric of the program. Parents choose which aspects will most benefit their student and create a customized learning plan with the teacher. The parent is in control of their child's education while enjoying as much or as little support from experienced educators as desired. iAcademy Elementary follows the NC State Curriculum for Reading, Mathematics, and Science.
Learning Paths:
Families choose from one of two primary learning paths:
1. Classroom Learning
Students enrolled in classroom learning benefit from group instruction facilitated by an experienced licensed teacher and an assistant. Group assignments encourage collaboration and build a sense of community and lessons are tailored to each student's grade and ability level. Since class time is limited, lessons are condensed. Therefore, if enrolled as a classroom learner, students are expected to attend each class. Families are responsible for supplementing learning at home through resources provided by iAcademy and/or from their own materials.
2. Online Learning
Curriculum
iAcademy Elementary follows the NC State Curriculum for Reading, Mathematics, and Science. Concepts are introduced in class and families are expected to review and practice these concepts at home using material provided by iAcademy and any other material a family finds helpful. Our school's unique schedule, offering more time at home for students, also allows families to supplement core subjects with additional subject matter such as Social Studies and extracurricular activities as desired. Enrichment opportunities on campus include optional weekly Spanish and Art Appreciation classes along with monthly Enrichment Days that have included a theater workshop, walking tour of local government, field trip to the planetarium and more.
In accordance with G.S. 115C-557, each qualified nonpublic school shall administer, at least once in each school year, a nationally standardized test or other nationally standardized equivalent measurement selected by the chief administrative officer of such school.
History
iAcademy Elementary began in 2018 as a partnership between a community of parents and Iredell-Statesville Schools for the purpose of providing local children with the innate benefits of learning at home and the myriad of resources available through traditional schooling. Our school is the first no-cost public school offering a homeschool hybrid program in the state of North Carolina. In its second year of operation, iAcademy elementary doubled in students, staff, and classrooms. It is setting a new precedent in education with a host of other districts requesting information and the chance to observe.
Enrollment
Enrollment for iAcademy Elementary is typically open as space allows. Students must meet and maintain academic and behavioral standards outlined in the school handbook to enroll and remain in this choice program. Enrollment is offered at no cost to Iredell County residents. Out-of-county residents are eligible to enroll as well, though there may be a fee associated with enrollment established on a case by case basis.
