Social Emotional Learning
What is Social-Emotional Learning?
Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for success in school, work, and life. Individuals with strong social-emotional skills are more equipped to handle everyday challenges and even benefit socially, academically, and professionally. The 5 main competencies that SEL curricula aim to equip students with are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. Research findings support the conclusion that SEL leads to improved academic outcomes, behavior, and overall school climate.
