The Iredell-Statesville Board of Education is seeking a superintendent to lead the school system as it continues its pursuit of excellence. Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed as a superintendent in North Carolina or be qualified to serve under the State Board of Education's alternative guidelines. Central office and building-level experience are preferred. A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred but not required. By law, the superintendent must reside in Iredell County, and residence in the Iredell-Statesville School district is strongly encouraged.  Applications are due by January 31, 2020.  Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and a history of demonstrated leadership.

Candidates must demonstrate ability and success in: (1) visionary educational leadership; (2) instructional, curriculum, and administrative leadership; (3) decision-making, delegation, and follow-through; (4) goal-setting and monitoring achievement; (5) fostering community and intergovernmental partnerships; (6) administration and organization of short-term and long-term strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel and facility management; (7) strong communication skills and effective team building; (8) procuring additional funding; (9) visibility and involvement in community activities; (10) leadership in maintaining safe and orderly school environments; and (11) planning and funding of school facilities.

The Iredell-Statesville Schools are governed by a seven-member partisan Board of Education elected by district. The school system operates thirty-seven schools that serve approximately 20,400 students from pre-kindergarten through grade thirteen. The system includes seventeen elementary schools, nine middle schools, nine high schools (including three Early Colleges and one Career Academy and Technical School), and two alternative/non-traditional schools.  The district's mission is "We are a premier school system where students come first.
