Great for Parents and Students to Listen Together!!

Being a parent is challenging in the best of times. When your child is academically advanced or identified as AIG, raising them brings some additional considerations. In this session, Dr. Michael Matthews of UNC Charlotte will discuss some of what parents should know about academically advanced learners, with a focus on the needs of the secondary-age child. In addition to learning more about issues such as underachievement, perfectionism, and growing up as a gifted child in today’s era, parents will learn more about how to help their child cope with online learning and other current sources of stress in their lives. In addition to his career in gifted education, Dr. Matthews is the parent of three children who have participated in varied AIG and magnet school programs in elementary, middle, and high school.
