Licensure Renewal Guidelines
Continuing Education Unit (CEUs) & Professional Learning Hours = 1 CEU = 10 hours of Professional Learning
CEU Requirements for Licensure Renewal as of 4/5/18.
Teacher, Student Services and School Administrators must earn at least 8.0 renewal credits during each five-year renewal cycle that meet the following requirements:
Teachers Grades K-5

3 CEUs in Academic Subject Area – Aligned to NC Professional Teaching Standards 3 and 4

3 CEUs of Literacy - As defined in GS 115C-296 as “evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and intervention strategies for students not demonstrating reading proficiency. Oral language, phonemic and phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension shall be addressed in literacy-related activities leading to license renewal.”

Teachers Grades 6-12

National Boards Certification

Educators completing the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification process may earn all 8 CEU for completion of the process and certification. Those who are in the national board renewal cycle may earn 2 CEUs (1 CEU-Academic and 1 CEU-Digital Learning Competencies).

Professional Learning Opportunities to Earn CEUs
Site-based and Virtual Professional Learning Communities
- Type and quantity of CEUs are captured on School Umbrella by principal or designee. Individuals must register for their school umbrella in Time Keeper and sign in in-order to receive CEUs
Professional Learning Communities facilitated by Secondary Content Coaches
- Individuals must register for their PLC in Time Keeper and sign in in-order to receive CEUs. The facilitator of the PLC or designee manage attendance in LINQ
Early Release Professional Development
- Elementary: type and quantity of CEUs captured on school umbrella
- Secondary: type and quantity of CEUs identified in course description). Individuals must register in Time Keeper and sign in in-order to receive CEUs. Facilitator of course or designee manage attendance in LINQ
District sponsored professional learning courses offered at district or school sites
- Type and quantity of CEUs identified in course description. Individuals must register in Time Keeper and sign in in-order to receive CEUs. Facilitator of course or designee manage attendance in LINQ

- Access NCEd Rapididentity > TNL Icon > Professional Development tab > Browse Focus Area Aligned Courses for formal or self-paced courses or use Course Search function to locate and then register for a course.
- Visit the Out-of-District Workshop Submission Process tab above to have your CEUs entered in your CEU transcript.

Register for a Workshop (Participant)
- From Staff tab on I-SS home page Select TimeKeeper
- Log in as you normally would
- Click on Workshop Registration from menu on left
- In the “Available Workshop “section Click on Descriptions to get workshops in alpha-order then Scroll to find the title of your workshop. You can also search by date of the workshop. There are no course numbers at this time
- Click on title
- At the bottom of the web page click “Register”, then Click “Yes”
- You can un-register if you wish with Un-register button at bottom of web page
- Log out at top of page or be timed out
- Time Keeper has a rather short cycle time and you will be timed out if not interacting with platform

Out of District Workshops Submission Process
Finance Department's prior approval/reimbursement process has not changed.
Workshop template submission and documentation process has changed.
Submission of workshop template and Certificate of CEUs take place after the workshop is completed:
- Log in to TimeKeeper as you normally would
- Click on CEUs from menu on left
- Click on View/Submit CEUs for approval link
- Click + Add New
Complete the following fields and upload CEU certificate
- Completion Date : Enter the date the workshop ends
- Course Code: Leave Blank
- Location: Enter where the workshop was held
- Type of Credit: Leave Blank
- Course Types: Leave Blank
- Description: Enter the title of the workshop
- Facilitator : Enter Out-of-District
- Credits: Enter total of hours awarded for this workshop
- Credit Breakdown: Enter the total hours beside the type of credit received for this workshop
- Supporting Document
- Description: Enter title of workshop
- Click on upload file button
- Search for the uploaded certificate
- Click Save
