North Iredell High School Project Overview:

North Iredell High is a 9-12 high school located in Olin just west of I-77 off Jennings Road. Olin is a rural agricultural area supporting a large part of the agribusiness in Iredell County. Growth is slow paced, but steady. North High is home to a growing agribusiness program recognized state-wide.

North currently serves over 1,200 students in a facility which ranges in age from the early 1960's to 2009. The school was built as a consolidated high school opening in 1966. The original campus was designed to serve 1,000 students, but has had several additions since raising its recommended capacity to 1,500. Currently the school has 1 modular classroom and the band is housed in a 4 classroom-sized renovated building separate from the arts area.

The majority of the buildings are from the original 1966 campus. The auditorium and arts areas are built with a capacity of only 480 (current population of 1,200 plus). Currently, we have on-going challenges to keep the structure maintained and operating efficiently. The campus has several original precast concrete canopies which are deteriorating and becoming safety concerns. The plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems cannot provide the necessary power requirements and learning environment expected in today's modern venues and classrooms. Heating, cooling, and bathroom facilities are inadequate for the population to be served. Several areas of the campus are in need of renovation.

North Iredell High will have a new appropriately-sized auditorium (750-800), new classroom spaces for ROTC and Agribusiness, new band, chorus, art, and accessory spaces sized to handle the new and future capacity needs, circulation space, and other renovations needed on campus. Road HVAC upgrades and canopy renovations are also included. The new construction and improvements will bring the capacity up to 1,600.
